Without support, writers so often falter and fail to believe in their own brilliance and the strength of their words.
The world needs your book and I will give you the tools you need to make it shine.
INTRODUCING…
The Literary Community enables serious writers to create books that make a powerful impact in the world. Here, you’ll learn how to find your inspiration and craft a book that will hook readers from the first page. You’ll gain confidence and momentum and feel like the serious author you’ve always wanted to be.
I’m Jacqui Lofthouse,
Founder of The Writing Coach.
I completed my MA in Creative Writing at University of East Anglia under Malcolm Bradbury and Rose Tremain and was the first traditionally published novelist in the UK to also qualify as a life coach.. My novels have been published by Penguin and Bloomsbury and have sold 100,000 copies.
Having spent over twenty-five years as a novelist and writing coach, I have worked with hundreds of writers at all stages of their careers, from beginners to international prizewinning authors. I have taught creative writing in a wide variety of settings from prisons to universities. I understand that what all writers need most are self-belief, community and a structured approach to writing.
I help writers who are struggling to complete projects by teaching them focus, core creative writing skills and marketing - enabling them to finish books, get published and gain an audience for their work. My approach is the most nurturing in the business. It is my mission is to make meaning through creative work and to support you as you forge your unique creative path.

“Without Jacqui, I would not now be a published author. She was there at several key points in my writing career with the advice and encouragement that allowed me to make the move to the next stage... The coming year looks exactly like the future I could only dream of during those years as an unpublished writer. There are so many people who have helped me on this journey in many different ways, but Jacqui Lofthouse is at the head of my list."
— Carolyn Kirby. - Author of 'When We Fall' and 'The Conviction of Cora Burns'
"A friend recommended Jacqui and, over six months, she gave me the confidence to take the big step of committing a whole year to one project. She also provided excellent literary feedback, helping me turn my first chapters into little diamonds. Now, my first novel Cuckoo – the one Jacqui helped me with – has been published by Headline. I am about to hand my editor my second. I have one of the best agents in the country, have sold Italian, French, German and Dutch rights and I write full time."
— Julia Crouch. - Author of 'Her Husband's Lover', 'Tarnished' and 'Cuckoo'
“Jacqui is a wonderful writing coach, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her to others, and have in fact done just that!
She is warm, understanding, kind and insightful. Passionate about stories, deeply knowledgeable about the art of writing and, most of all, a thoroughly brilliant person.”
– Dan Sherrard-Smith – Author and Founder of 'Hope for Planet Earth'.
Writing a book alone isn’t always easy:
- Your writing inspires you deeply, yet you are progressing too slowly.
- Sometimes you feel your idea is overwhelming and the project is too big.
- You know you could write a book, if only you had more self-belief.
- You’ve tried going it alone, but you always get stuck.
- You can picture the finished manuscript but you need more help with craft.
- You let your fear of agents and publishers get in the way of your daily creative work.
Yet when you join us, in ‘The Literary Community’, your writing life will look very different…
- You will learn to truly focus and create space for your writing.
- You’ll gain a deep belief and confidence in your writing that you couldn’t imagine before.
- You develop key creative writing skills that keep the reader turning the page.
- You start to take yourself seriously as a writer.
- You become part of a community of committed writers.
- You understand exactly how to pitch your work to an agent and publisher.
- You have absolute confidence you can complete a book to be proud of.

“The community has provided me with significant support, insight, knowledge and the delightful company of other writers as I complete my novel. From classes in the “spell" of fiction, to craft, to publishing, along with weekly opportunities to write in the company of others, as well as interviews with agents and published authors, and much else, the course is comprehensive, intelligent, and supportive, a vital and brilliant system, a real treasure.”
- Julie Berriault
"I still remember the day I signed up with Jacqui at The Writing Coach. We had a brief chat on the phone and I chose the year long mentorship package. In many ways It was a life-changing decision, I hadn’t written a story before. I completed my memoir under Jacqui’s supervision and am now in the process of pitching to agents. The whole process gave me the validation that I am a writer and now have the confidence to take on new challenges like writing articles for my local paper and looking to complete my next book."
- Afrika Green, Internationally renowned drummer
“The community really makes me think and reflect. I always come away from a session with Jacqui feeling more positive and calmer, and with a sense that it is possible to achieve what I’m dreaming about. I love Jacqui’s teaching and insights. I’ve really enjoyed the module content and writing exercise and the 30 day programme. I also find it a very supportive and collaborative space. I’ve done a lot of different writing classes and events, and the atmosphere here is by far the most supportive and encouraging.”
- Melissa Elborn, Award-winning journalist and author
